Few things are more vulnerable or intimate than bringing a child into the world. Navigating this for the first time, we knew that we needed someone walking the journey with us - someone who is experienced, wise, and responsive. Marlo was all those things, and more. Parenting is a new frontier for us in our life and in our faith. To be rooted in Marlo's Biblically-based learning about pregnancy, labour, delivery, and parenting helped each of us to grow in our faith and to build our family on the most solid foundation.

Marlo put us at ease right away with her warm, friendly demeanour and knowledge of the miracle of pregnancy and birth. She was respectful, loving and empowering in her communication with my husband and I with all our first time parent questions. We felt much more confident going into labour and parenthood knowing Marlo was in our corner!

We hired Marlo as our post-partum doula, and it was the best investment we made as new parents, bar none. She came to our home and helped us with everything from breastfeeding support, to teaching us how to use cloth diapers, to sharing resources for postpartum and neonatal care. Not only that, but within an hour of her arrival, she had prepared a tray of food for me, made me a cup of tea, set up our changing station, and thrown a load of laundry in the machine! To a wide-eyed, harried new mom, that experience was nothing short of a miracle.
I especially appreciated her dedication to supporting us in becoming the parents we wanted to be, not imposing her views, but rather sharing information and resources so that we could make informed decisions that aligned with our values.
She exudes a grounded, calm, good-humoured energy that is the perfect balm for underslept, anxious new parents.
And while of course she helped out with the baby, what I really appreciated was her focus on making sure we were taking care of ourselves - taking the baby out for a walk so I could get some rest, making sure I was eating (especially important if you're breastfeeding!), and other little things like helping me organize the hand-me-downs we'd received from friends.
I recommend Marlo to every new parent I know. She made the arrival of our first child an immeasurably calmer and happier experience - and she was a genuine pleasure to spend time with, too. Because of Marlo, we had a pretty blissful entry into new parenthood - and while of course it was a huge transition, having a warm, experienced doula ensured we navigated it with ease.

My husband and I absolutely loved having Marlo as our doula for the birth of our twin girls. She gave us two prenatal classes in our home, which allowed us to forgo taking some more expensive classes about childbirth. During the actual birth, she was a godsend. She put me on a birth ball which greatly helped deal with contraction pain, and also allowed me to use her TENS machine as well, which turns pain signals into pleasure signals. In addition, she gave me leg and foot massages to help with the circulation in my swollen extremities, ran and got us food and drinks throughout the labor and after the delivery, made sure I was comfortable with all the medical decisions being made, dealt with me vomiting before giving birth, put cool washcloths on me while I was pushing, made sure my husband was comfortable and taken care of, and was a constant source of encouragement throughout the entire process. She also took some amazing video of the birth of our girls, which we will cherish forever. Finally, after the birth she also helped us breastfeed our girls for the first time. I was 100% satisfied with our decision to hire her, which came as a recommendation from our doctor. She met all of our expectations and even exceeded them as well.
On another note, after the birth we continued contacting Marlo as a source of information, help, and encouragement when I was having trouble breastfeeding, and when my husband was worried about me having extreme uterine contracting pain. She was always incredibly helpful, calming, and informative.
All in all we loved her and would totally recommend hiring her to anybody in search of a doula. One of the best decisions we made in our journey to having twin girls!

The BEST possible investment I made for my pregnancy and postpartum period. Having no family around, Marlo played a crucial role in my transition to motherhood. She came over regularly in the weeks after my delivery, when I was going through significant emotional and physical recovery, and made a challenging time so much easier. She made tons of food from "Oh She Glows" cookbook and she looked after my son so that I could rest and recover. I could not trust anyone more with our son then I do Marlo.

Marlo will forever be apart of our family. Her knowledge and guidance was beyond our expectations not only through our birth but following as she spent months assisting us with postpartum care. She is trustworthy, dedicated & immensely knowledgable on information pertaining to her field: birth, babies, mothers & fathers too. Any woman and family is lucky to have her as their doula!

I had Marlo as my Postpartum Doula. I called Marlo after birth and she was very supportive and understanding even before I got home from the hospital. She was there for my husband, my baby and myself. She is an amazing person and excellent professional as well. She helped me recoup physically and emotionally as well. Would highly recommend her!

Marlo was fantastic as a postpartum doula; her calm demeanour, knowledge, expertise, humour, know-how with babies and newborns, and nurturing nature made our days very memorable and exactly what I needed. Highly recommended!

Marlo is amazing! We had twin preemie boys in January, who came home when they were just 4 lbs each. Marlo provided post partum night support for over 4 months, several nights a week. She was absolutely wonderful! We trusted her completely with the care of our boys (and us!). Marlo did everything you could ask for and more; she fed both babies at the same time, rocked them to sleep, cared for them and played with them when they didn't want to sleep! It was clear she really loved our boys. We knew our boys were well looked after, which meant we could get some much needed sleep.
But Marlo did so much more than look after the babies, she came early to clean our kitchen, she folded our laundry, she made my wife a great salad dressing for her lunch the next day and she even organized our gigantic piles of baby clothes for us.. all in the middle of the night.
Marlo, is honest, direct, funny, and extremely knowledgeable. She helped us tremendously with all things related to baby and post partum care. There wasn't a question we had that phased her or that she couldn't shed some light on.
Having said all this, some of my fondest memories of Marlo are just our random, silly, funny conversations we had at 3 am, while I pumped and she sat on the couch feeding the babies. Marlo has a gift for reading a situation and providing exactly what you need (even if you couldn't think of it yourself).

Marlo was my postpartum doula and I had a fantastic experience. I thought I would need some support during the first few transitional weeks and she was a great choice -- during a time that could be emotional and trying due to so many new responsibilities and sleep deprivation, she was a steady and helping hand, always there to guide us to find our own way. She met us at the hospital the day our little one was born to provide basic care instruction as well as invaluable breastfeeding instruction. When breastfeeding proved difficult, she offered suggestions and, importantly, moral support counselling that everything would work out with "patience and persistence", which it has. She very kindly made herself available by phone and text during a time when I, as many new mums, had lots of questions -- and even responded in the middle of the night to my texts!
Marlo has a calm, non-judgemental manner and was always thoughtful, responsive and patient. I highly recommend her as a doula!

Marlo is an exceptional doula and human being. Her unassuming personality and strength of spirit are gifts for anyone who meets her. She became our supporter, confindante, educator and friend. We have only positive things to say about her and are still in awe at the enorimty of the whole experience and to Marlo we will be forever grateful.

It's quite possible that we could have gotten through the whole ordeal of raising new born twins without Marlo - but I can't imagine how or why we would want to try!
Not only is she absolutely superb at looking after mum and babies (and passes on so much of that knowledge), she is wonderfully caring as she does it. We can't thank her enough.

From our very first meeting, Marlo impressed me as someone who combines great knowledge with a down-to-earth attitude. She is smart, practical and has a great sense of humour; all great qualities in a birth assistant. She is also approachable and always made herself available when we had questions or issues, walking us through our options with considerable expertise. As we were planning a home birth, this included coming to our home to help us get prepared and discuss how to best set up our apartment for a comfortable birth.
During the birth Marlo was incredible – so positive and encouraging. My husband in particular was grateful as Marlo helped him to better help me. With Marlo’s direction I had the perfect team supporting me in various positions and working pressure points, and this was enough to get me through even the most powerful contractions. Marlo is exactly the kind of person you want in this situation – she knows what to do and she faces all challenges with a calm, frank sincerity that is incredibly reassuring. Before, during, and after birth, she was always there when I needed her, and though we didn’t have a lot of complications it was still comforting to know that help was just a phone call away.
Any birth is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and having the proper support can make all the difference in the world - especially when that support is someone with such generosity of spirit. I feel heartfelt gratitude to Marlo for helping make my daughter’s birth day one of the most beautiful experiences of my life.

Marlo was so incredible from the moment I went in to labour until long after our baby girl was born. We had the most incredible water birth in the comfort of our home and Marlo took care of everything! She arrived early and stayed with us for the whole day. What I wasn’t expecting was how integral she was to my birth partner and mother who were both there. It was a pretty long labour (18hours) and as well as completely supporting me, she cared for both of them as they were my main support throughout. She made sure they rested and ate, guided them in my care, and when they needed a break she was right there to step in. I could honestly write a 4 page essay on why this woman helped make our birth so incredible. She went so Above and beyond in so many ways and is truly doing what she was born to do. I would recommend her services to ANYONE!

My husband and I were so thankful to have Marlo present for the birth of our baby girl. All I wanted was a home birth and Marlo was amazing through the whole process. I had a very quick labour (<4hours) and the midwives almost didn’t make it for the delivery at home. Marlo kept her calm, and was so supportive and caring throughout. And the house looked amazing after! I would recommend Marlo and her team to anyone considering a doula. What a wonderful experience.

Marlo was an amazing doula that supported us from before to well after delivery of our beautiful baby girl. Her experience, kindness and knowledge really helped make the experience the best possible and I wouldn't for a second hesitate to recommend her to other couples. As a bonus, she seems to know the whole hospital staff which certainly helped to make the birthing environment a positive one. You won't be disappointed going with this team.

I never knew that having a doula can be a life changing experience. I cannot stop praising Marlo ever since the birth of my baby last week. Marlo was a tremendous help throughout this exciting and terrifying journey. Since the day we had our first meeting with Marlo until the day our baby was born (and even now) Marlo has been so helpful answering our late night emails and educating us on the birthing process. She is experienced, knowledgeable and knows lots of nurses and doctors at the hospital. They all trust her too. I remember during my forceps delivery in the OR, I was only allowed to have one person beside me, that being my husband. But I insisted on having Marlo there too and the doctor didn’t hesitate to bring her in at all. She was truly an angel for us and I don’t know what we would’ve done without her.

I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to sing Marlo's praise. We could not imagine our birthing journey without her.
This was our first baby so everything was new/exciting/terrifying and it was such a blessing to be able to send all our questions (big or small) to Marlo and Raquel. This meant we didn't scare ourselves with Google searches or feel like we were harassing our midwife around the clock. Both Doulas were always super quick to respond via phone/email/text which we also really appreciated as anxious first time parents to be.
Marlo is extremely well organized and the info she presented to us whether in an email or in person was consistently clear and easy to understand. Both my husband and I have careers in management so we extra appreciated how on the ball Marlo is with keeping track of all our information.
In terms of the birth itself I can't imagine how either of us would have navigated such a challenging event without her. Having someone who actually knew what was going on took a huuuuge amount of stress off both of us. When labour began it was such a relief to know she would call the midwife when it was time, that she would make sure we both ate, hydrated and (when possible) rested...essentially she insured we were always moving forward. During labour she changed activities up continuously to keep me moving towards delivering our baby. This included stair climbing, hot showers, walking around the neighborhood, sitting on the toilet. They tell you about all these activities in pre natal class but when you're in labour, remembering what to do and when to do it is another thing entirely.
As valuable as the practical know how was, the loving encouragement Marlo provided was just as important. So many times making eye contact with her and hearing her say how awesome I was made me able to take another step forward...kinda like when you're on the final stretch of the grouse grind and a stranger yells "you're doing great! You're almost there!" and you realize you are great! and you get that burst of energy that keeps you going.
I really appreciated that she always gave my husband the lead in supporting me but if I needed her or my husband needed a breather she was immediately there and rock solid in her support.
There's so much more to write (I haven't even gotten into her post birth care!) but the bottom line is Marlo brought that mix of strength and tenderness that guided me through one of the toughest and most amazing 36 hours of my life. I will be forever grateful to her for helping us bring our beautiful son into this world.

From the moment my boyfriend and I first met Marlo, we knew that she was the perfect doula for us! We were looking for someone who was knowledgeable, experienced, and supportive. It was crucial that our doula support what we wanted for our birth plan and Marlo did exactly that. She helped us have the most perfect and amazing drug-free home water birth imaginable! Our labour was fast but Marlo was there in an instant and was able to set up everything that was needed for our home water birth despite our labour progressing so quickly. She provided invaluable support for both my boyfriend and I, encouraging us through the whole labour, and in times when I felt like I was going to give up, she took my hand and helped carry me through those intense moments. Her post-partum support was much appreciated. Whenever we had any questions, we were able to call or email her to get answers. She helped take some of the burden off of us so we could rest and enjoy the time with our new little one. Her wealth of knowledge also helped us get through our breastfeeding issues, as well. Having her as part of our team was one of the best decisions we could've made!

Marlo was absolutely amazing and supportive. My husband and I felt very happy and lucky to have her support during labour. She was very quick to response and came to the hospital as soon as we needed her. She is very caring and I think being a doula is not just a job to her, she really cares and wants to help. She had reviewed our birth plan and was aware of our wishes to support us with it. She made us feel very comfortable during the whole process. Even little things like making my husband's bed at the hospital so he could get some sleep. I think she went above and beyond to support us during labour and I would recommend her to all mothers out there. I definitely know that I will get her support if we end up having a second baby. Thank you Marlo for everything you did for us.

Marlo helped me immensely through the labour and delivery of my first child. She was helpful in answering my questions over the telephone during early labour and her presence with me and my husband during the beginning of active labour was invaluable.
Marlo continued to provide excellent emotional and practical support as my labour progressed in the hospital. She was an advocate for my wishes and checked in with me regarding my birth plan. Her reassurance played an integral role in helping me birth our little girl. Marlo even helped make me a snack after I delivered our baby - an act of service which I totally appreciated!

We feel so fortunate to have been connected with Marlo for the birth of our first child - I ended up with a c-section as my baby was transverse & stuck but Marlo was fully supportive emotionally and physically throughout the labour process & we couldn't have done it without her.
When we found out they were available for the birth of our second we were thrilled! I laboured at BC Women's this time and Marlo was my rock (along with my partner) and helped me get through the labour with gas & tens and thankfully this time it ended with a water birth.
There were so many moments where I wondered how I would get through it but could hear them saying "you can do this" and were there again physically and emotionally the whole time. I can honestly say, I couldn't have done it without them & am so very thankful for the whole experience!

I reached out to Marlo fairly late in my second pregnancy as my husband and I were undecided on whether to invest in hiring a doula. Based on the informative and kind discussions we had with the doulas, we were able to make our decision. They took their time in answering our many questions with care, confidence and patience.
When it came to labouring, Marlo was right there when we needed her. She was able to do things to help without being asked, which made me feel like we were in tune. I felt confident that my husband could be focused on me and Marlo would just do her thing and try to keep me comfortable. She was kind, caring and encouraging, and was able to keep me as calm and relaxed as possible.
I was trying for a VBAC and eventually some difficult decisions needed to be made as it didn't look like that was going to be possible in the end. Marlo was super supportive through the whole process and I felt she understood me on an emotional level, which was a big deal for me in the moment. I ended up needing another cesarean after all and Marlo stayed for the duration, until I was in recovery.
Though I had a c-section, I felt better supported at having Marlo there during my labour and recovery. I must add, I have a very supportive and tuned in husband. So my saying I was able to feel more supported and comfortable by having Marlo there is really a true compliment.
It may sounds silly, but I feel bonded to Marlo through my experience. She has since met my firstborn and provided us with some support for our newborn at home. I wish I had chosen to invest in having Marlo's support for my first, but I'm certainly glad we did this time!

Marlo played an invaluable role in our labour experience. Since the first time we met her for the doula interview, we had an instant connection with her. She has a great energy and presence that helps you feel at ease. Once we met her, my husband and I knew that we were in good hands.
Our labour didn't go as we wanted it and I had a long and intense 5 day labour. Marlo was available for us, checking in and supporting us both. Her calm presence helped us stay grounded and calm at times when we needed to be, especially after experiencing complications and needing to keep adjusting our birth plan. She was incredible at guiding us through the whole process, making sure we were doing well physically and emotionally.
Marlo was a great source of support with both my husband and I. She was amazing at meeting my needs, make several suggestions and make me feel comfortable, advocating for me and helped us advocate when needed. She was also great at calming and comforting my husband when he was worried about me. He remembers very clearly that Marlo was incredibly helpful especially in the moment I went in to be prepped for a c-section. Marlo supported him through what felt like an eternity to him.
She gave us information, guidance and support throughout our delivery process and we are very thankful and grateful to her. She was even an amazing photographer and took absolutely amazing photos during our labour, which are very precious!
We would definitely recommend Marlo to others and would love to have her again when we have another baby.
Marlo, thank you so much for all your help, support and amazing energy during our crazy labour experience! We are very grateful and happy to have had you by our side!
You made being a doula seem effortless even though, we know that is not the case.
Our labour didn't go as we wanted it and I had a long and intense 5 day labour. Marlo was available for us, checking in and supporting us both. I could not have asked for better support than what Marlo provided for my home birth, both before, during, and after.
She is calm, knowledgeable, intuitive and informative. She made great suggestions as to different labour positions to try, and understood when I was too preoccupied with labour pains to communicate verbally.
I loved the birth pool - it was so relaxing and calming, and Marlo knew just when to suggest using it. It gave me a much-needed rest and recharge. Marlo also helped us prepare for the home birth, so we were well-equipped when my labour began.
Last but not least, Marlo is a great communicator - she responds clearly, helpfully and in a timely manner to emails and text messages, which is important to me.
I really wanted to have a home birth, and Marlo's support was essential to making it happen. I could not recommend her more wholeheartedly!

We were hesitant investing in a doula at first but after a lot of research and interviews, we found the best! From first communication, Marlo was professional, knowledgable, open & warm. She went above and beyond answering FTM questions promptly via text, phone or email, giving great advice, relevant articles and a reassuring word. Her experience and attitude helped us develop complete confidence in her care.
When my birthing time came, Marlo was like the friend I needed most: providing encouragement, physical and emotional comfort for me and being the helping hand for my husband who didn't know what to expect. Most importantly, she supported me in my strong desire for a natural birth and helped make it a reality. Both my husband and I don't exaggerate in saying Marlo was ESSENTIAL for my birth. I couldn't have done it without her and look forward to her care for future babies!

Marlo was our doula for the home birth of our daughter, our first child. From our initial meeting through subsequent emails, texts, and conversations, Marlo was unwaveringly supportive of our birth preferences and was the perfect source for birth and new parenting advice. When our baby was two weeks “overdue,” Marlo helped us stay strong in our fraught decision to forego interventions and to let labor begin when my body was ready.
Having Marlo at our birth and in the early weeks of our daughter’s life was like the presence of a calming, trusted friend who is an expert in birth and parenting. Despite much research and preparation for birth, I had major doubts during labor about my ability to persist through a home delivery. I credit Marlo 100% as the reason our daughter was able to be born at home and why I have such positive associations with the birth. When I was anxious about pushing or my labor slowing, Marlo provided reassurance and homeopathic remedies that helped move things along. She made intuitive, non-invasive suggestions to my husband about how he could best support me. I learned later from my husband that Marlo also gently coached our midwives on how I wanted to be communicated with as a labored – this was extremely important to helping me relax. Marlo remains among the most intuitive people I’ve ever met – she truly brings out the best in other birth support people and keeps the parents’ preferences constantly at the forefront of her mind.
In the two weeks after birth, having Marlo sit out our couch and patiently listen to us obsess over our baby’s every move was the best form of postpartum ‘therapy’ I can think of! She provided empowering advice on how to deal with the early days of figuring out our daughter’s sleep, eating, and diapering needs.
We cannot recommend Marlo highly enough!

Marlo was a truly excellent doula for us, and was a major factor in making our birth experience a positive one. When we met prior to the birth, her questions were thorough and definitely gave me the confidence that she really understood our specific desires and what kind of birth experience we were looking for. She was also able to fill in some of the information that was missing from other sources - what to bring to the hospital, what the birth and post-partum rooms in the hospital are really like, etc. Not only was she informative, she was warm, positive and kind, and I felt very reassured that she would be there for the birth.
On the day of our son's birth, events went much more quickly than planned (not at all what we were expecting!), and without Marlo's help and expertise we would not have understood where I was in the labour process and would probably not have gone to the hospital in time. Once she arrived at our place, she helped me with some very clear suggestions for breathing and pain management, helped my partner support me better, and acted as a liaison with our midwife. Throughout our time at home and at the hospital, I really felt that Marlo was the one person who was both there completely for me, and who had the experience to reassure me and help us understand various parts of the process. It was like having a friend there who had been through it all hundreds of times.
I recommend Marlo wholeheartedly!!

It's so hard to find the words to describe how amazing Marlo is as a person, but also how talented she is as a Doula. My Husband and I had hired Marlo. The day I went in to labour, Marlo came to my rescue.
Marlo is such a kind and nurturing person with a calm and insightful spirit. Her just being around I knew everything was going to be ok. The birth of our daughter progressed a lot faster than anyone had expected and Marlo had so many tricks up her sleeve to help with pain managment. If one position didn't work, she already had another one in mind. The calmness she exudes helped my husband and I go through a natural labour - we couldn't have done it without her!
I will be reaching out to Marlo for baby #2. Could not do this without her!

Marlo was the perfect support person for our twin, vaginal, hospital birth. Marlo made the hospital feel like a comfortable safe space. In the lead up to delivery, knowing Marlo would be there, even if my doctor wouldn't be, meant that I knew I'd have a friendly face at the hospital. She knew where to get all the little things that make life easier for labouring moms and spouses: blankets, juice, the fridge etc.
When I had to be admitted to monitor pre-eclampsia, she came by along with her partner Jill to make sure we were okay, and to get us settled into the hospital. They offered support, and advice, including tips on the best food available in the area (which was useful for a longer stay on the ward).
During labour, in addition to providing coping techniques, she gave us space to make decisions that were important to us, and supported those decisions (epidural, induction etc.). She was hugely helpful in getting my head around how to push, and had loads of suggestions to help me figure out how to do that with my own physical limitations. When things went a bit crazy after the delivery, she was a huge comfort to my spouse, who could be with our babies without worrying that I would be alone.
After delivery, she made herself available to discuss what had happened and to celebrate the moments that made the labour amazing.
I was very anxious about labour and delivery, and Marlo gave me the confidence I needed to succeed.

We had an absolutely amazing experience with Marlo as our doula. When we first chatted with her, we weren't really too sure of the role that a doula plays. We knew we didn't want someone who would take over my husband's role in our baby's birth or make him feel inadequate in any way, but as Marlo explained to us "You guys know each other, and I know what to expect in the birthing process" which totally made sense and helped us clearly see how the three of us could work together as a team.
Marlo really helped Nick and I feel at ease and remain very calm throughout my whole labour. She was unbelievably reassuring and supportive from the moment she arrived at the house in the middle of the night. She helped me work through the contractions by practicing my deep breathing techniques and instinctively seemed to know when I needed a rest, to change positions, to have some food or to just have a good old scream and let it all out! I absolutely know that without her we would have gone to the hospital much sooner and undoubtedly had a longer labour.
In the delivery room she was incredibly supportive and worked really well with our midwife Kate who had recommended her to us in the first place and our nurse Angela. I vividly remember looking round at them and my husband and thinking that they made a great team and it was exactly who I wanted present at the birth.
I wholeheartedly recommend having Marlo as your doula!

From a Mama's Perspective:
As a first time mother all I can say is that Marlo is a godsend, she is compassionate, kind and determined. She was invaluable part of our birthing experience. For hours on end she was our coach, our friend and our number one supporter. Nothing in our birthing experience went as hoped or planned, exept having Marlo there with us. She helped guide us through unforseen events and choices all with a smile on her face despite the time of night and the long hours. She motivated me to keep going and push myself to fullfill my goal of labouring without pain medication. She stood up for us againt unwanted pressure and negative comments from the medical staff.
After our son was born, Marlo made sure to visit us at home. This is where her compassion shined as she listened to my transition into motherhood with understanding and support. She truly cares about the mothers, fathers and children with which she works. You can see it in her face and hear it in her voice. I cannot imagine going through this process without Marlo.
From a Papa's Perspective:
Marlo was incredibly vauable to have around during my wife's labour. I was prepared and enthusiastic but I couldn't bring the know how that Marlo provided as it was first time watching a woman go through labour. Her coaching and guidance were very helpful and, with my wife in her own world, I had someone to talk to and joke with. Her calm, confident and sure demeanor were reasuring in moments when I did not know if something was "normal" or "common place". At one point she actually went out to get me some food and many times told me (though I didn't listen very well) to sleep and take a break. She was there for both of us and it was very much appreciated.

Our experience with Marlo was beyond fundamental to our birth experience. One cannot 'plan' or 'stage' their birth, particularly the first birth; one has no idea what to expect. Our experience was intense because we endured 3 days of inducing & our little one, who was overdue, still did not want out after this. We ultimately had a caesarean birth. Marlo did not leave our side & was an incomprehensible source in the days leading up; during & after the birth. My husband & I could not have endured this prolonged experience as peacefully as we did without the support of Marlo by our side. We look back at how scared we truly were & always thank god for having her there. She was our guidance, support, confident & friend through it all. Marlo is immensely knowledgeable about pregnancy, birth & infants. We have decided to continue to work with her for postnatal support care as we developed such a strong bond & trust with her. We feel very blessed to have found her & have her in our & sons life.

We highly recommend Marlo as we feel we definitely could not have done it without her. We were at ease with Marlo the first time we met her and felt we could share anything with her. Perhaps that was the reason our dogs loved her as well. We were lucky to have found a doula that knows how to work with dogs. She went above and beyond our expectation. We originally planned for a home water birth, and had to be transferred to the hospital for active labour. Marlo was there to support us the whole way. She was so encouraging and reassuring; she spent time talking to us and listening to us even after the baby was born. She went back to our home to pack the birth pool, and while she was doing that she managed to help us clean our house. That was after spending at least 12 hours with us. We were pretty amazed by her dedication and her energy level. She is the warmest, most positive person we have ever met. Her follow up visit was also very timely, and she listened when we needed someone to support us the most. We would not hesitate to work with Marlo again in the near future.

It is really hard to find words to describe this most sacred experience of our lives and the unique part you played in it. The fact that you were there made it that much more special.
First of all, you weren't even on call that day. But your partner Jill was with another patient. I easily got a hold of you and you were constantly in touch with me over the phone, until it was certain that me and Jill's patient will be in labour concurrently.
I was only 3cm dilated when I asked you to come to my house because I felt I couldn't manage the pain by myself anymore. And you came. You helped me with my back labor contractions - I don't remember any maneuvers you may have done, but your presence alone made me feel more peaceful and allowed me to surrender and listen to my body. Your guidance made my partner feel more connected and useful during this process.
You stayed calm and composed when the crowning occurred, no midwife around. It wasn't an easy period of labour for all of us. I can only imagine how stressful it must have been for you, but you didn't show it. Because you were there, I had no fear. You were so supportive. Compassionate and firm at the same time. Exactly what was needed.
I feel so lucky to have had you there on that day. Thank you also for preserving my placenta and for lots of post-partum support - answering questions, giving helpful links and referrals, offering ideas and solutions - thank you for everything! If I needed to give a score out of 10, I'd give 20!

I never got to thank you for the amazing support you gave me on the most important day of my life. Besides my husband, no one has advocated for me more than you did for me in the hospital: always supporting my efforts, pushing my birth plan wishes with the hospital staff and staying with me through the labour and the c-section. You gave me the most cherished photo I have of me and Olivia and I will forever be grateful for it. If I was lucky enough for round two, I would not hesitate to bring you with me again or to preach your greatness to others. It was a special time and you are a special and amazing person. Thank you so much!

We used Marlo's services for the birth of our first son in November 2012. She was everything I never knew I wanted in a doula! When originally interviewing doulas I wanted someone who was 'natural' and would advocate for me and my birth wishes. However, I didn't want someone who was too "crunchy granola/hippie" as I'm just not like that. I found Marlo to be the perfect blend of exactly that.
During labour she came to the house and helped me get through contractions using a TENS machine and homeopathy. She also ensured that I moved around/changed positions to help the baby drop (even though I didn't want to!). She called the midwife when it was time, and when I made an unexpected transfer to the hospital she helped smooth the transition.
Although my birth did not go exactly as planned (ha!!!) she made sure that my wishes were respected. She remained positive and upbeat yet firm which was precisely what I needed. When it came time to push and there were students in the room, she reminded me that I had not wanted students and asked them to leave. And after the birth she made sure baby latched on and held him there for about 30 minutes as I had no strength left to hold him on my own!
Despite coming from another birth and attending another one after mine, she never showed that she was tired although she must have been exhausted.
Marlo was genuinely caring, friendly and respectful of my wishes. She still checks in on us from time to time and I consider her a friend. I miss her now that we're not seeing her on a regular basis and can't wait to plan our next child so I can use her services again. I cannot say enough good things about her!!!

We feel very lucky to have met Marlo and had her as our guide into the world of parenthood.
We both felt an instant connection with Marlo when we were looking for a doula and really enjoyed spending time getting to know her before the birth. Her calm, genuine, non-judgmental manner, sense of humour and wealth of knowledge were immediately obvious upon meeting her and were key reasons for our decision to have Marlo as our doula. Marlo was always available with helpful advice for even the smallest question both before and after the birth and helped with everything from planning the birth, through to getting started with breastfeeding and dealing with our first diaper rash. She helped us to feel confident as new parents and to trust our instincts (which remains the most useful advice I've received).
We both felt great going into the birth, thanks to the time we'd spent discussing the birth and her confidence in us. Marlo was an invaluable support and advocate at the hospital, making sure we had the time and space to talk through decisions that came up. During labour she helped me move around and provided massage but the most valuable thing for me was her calm, supportive presence and words of encouragement. She was very intuitive about what I needed and I was grateful for her willingness to speak up for me when my partner and I were unable to do so. She also helped my partner to provide support and made sure that he took the opportunity to rest and eat.
After the birth, Marlo reviewed the labour with us. This process was very helpful as it ensured we understood everything that had happened and why. She helped us feel positive about a labour and birth that ended up being very different from our original plan.
We're so happy that Marlo was with us to welcome our little girl into the world. We've recommended Marlo to all of our friends and are looking forward to having Marlo as our doula again.

My husband and I were really appreciative of how Marlo helped hold the space for us and helped me to go with my intuition during my labour at BC Women's.
There were times during my labour when I felt scared, and Marlo's kind words and confidence made me feel more confident and assured. Actually, she helped my husband as much as me in this way. Marlo has a peaceful, calming presence, which she shared with both of us.
When I think back upon it, I remember the gentle and constant touch of her hand on my back while I laboured in the tub, and how it helped me to centre myself during contractions. She was awesome in every way!

Having Marlo a part of our birthing experience was invaluable. Both Prashant and I felt she was a critical part of our team. She had a completely appropriate way of ingratiating herself to our family and the process while balancing the right amount of involvement.
Marlo offered her expertise and guidance without taking away the uniqueness of our birthing experience. She did this by making suggestions without being predictive or prescriptive. It allowed for Prashant and I to feel supported each step of the way and respected for every feeling of excitement, fear, surprise, uncertainty and elation. She partnered with Prashant differently than how she partnered with me, tailoring her support to meet the needs of us as individuals, man and woman, and as a couple.
Although each family and birthing experience has its own story, we feel that Marlo’s professionalism, and knowledgeable yet personable approach, makes her a perfect fit for any story.

I have thought of you often and especially mention you when sharing my birth story with friends who are pregnant, always feeling privileged and blessed that I found you and that you were supporting me emotionally, physically, mentally, all the way through those grueling 36 hours of labour. They are always gobsmacked when I tell them that you came to me several times after the birth, especially during my struggles with breastfeeding, and that you made us lunch and cleaned my kitchen. You are definitely an angel sent from heaven.

My birth experience was amazing and special. I thank Marlo for helping me deliver my first child.
My first introduction to Marlo was at a prenatal class that she was teaching. I knew from the moment I met her that she was a special and dear friend. My husband had the same feeling and when speaking to her about our birth plan and hopes, she made us feel at ease as I was planning a homebirth.
She took time to listen, and grounded me which allowed me to feel safe embarking on the magical journey. Her intuition and gentle approach reminded me to stay clear. She offered comfort, and an ancient natural wisdom that you would read about in an old world novel. Her support helped me deliver my son.
In the days prior to, and after the delivery, she came by, and phoned to see how I was making out and if I needed anything. I experienced difficulty with breastfeeding and she was able to guide me through that hard time and all along she treated me like a goddess. She shared wisdom, humor and knowledge of experiences she knew of. Eventully my boy got a good latch on my breast.
Every time I reflect on that special day and that time of my life, I remember the beautiful and amazing presence Marlo offered with her gentle friendship and doula-ness. She is amazing!!

Marlo was a great help for our home birth experience. She offered a tens machine which was really helpful during labour as well as some books for my son to read about becoming a big brother. My son was present for the birth and Marlo was great with him and after the birth, she encapsulated my placenta which was easier than outsourcing it. Her partner doula Raquel did our home visit with us and she had a lot of great information for us. Even though this was not my 1st birth, I felt like I learned a lot from her visit and it gave me piece of mind going into the birth. Together, both Raquel and Marlo make a great team and I would definitely recommend them for any moms to be.

Having Marlo at our the birth of our first born was an invaluable experience. Marlo provided the guidance, support and knowledge that bridged the gap between us, the nurse and our midwife. In an experience that was completely new to us, Marlo was there by our side the whole time and made us feel as comfortable and as calm as possible. Her support before and after the birth made us feel like we could turn to her with any questions or just to check in and let her know how we were doing. I want Marlo by our side for each milestone as this little nugget grows up! Do Doulas help with potty training?! Thank you Marlo - we are so grateful that you were a part of the best day of our lives.
